Soup Glorious Soup!

In year one we have continued to use our 5 senses to detect and unknown object. This week our theme has been soup.  We used our senses to help us detect what soup was put in front of us while blindfolded!  We came up with some amazing adjectives to describe what we could hear, smell, feel and see.
Phoebe used her senses very well and guessed that a can of tomato soup was in front of her.

Harry was blindfolded next. He used some very interesting words to describe what he was tasting! He guessed that it may have been alien slime with lumps of sausage in it! Ha ha! I hope his mam never serves chicken soup for tea!

Next week year 1 look forward to writing a soup poem! I can't wait to read them!

Finding Half!

Today in numeracy year 1 have been finding half of a given amount. We used some delicious Starburst sweets to make it even more exciting!

Below are some pictures of us finding half of a given amount. We decided to follow these steps:

1. Count the total number of sweets.
2. Share them equally in to two separate piles, fairly.
3. Count one pile of sweets.

We were brilliant and are becoming maths experts quickly!

You may like to find half of a given amount at home! Good luck!

Maths Master Chef!

Year 1 have been learning all about halves and quarters. We decided to put the children to the test and ask them to make some 'fraction pizzas'.

We cut the pizzas in to 4 equal quarters.  We then decided what ingredients we would enjoy on our pizza.  Each child made there own quarter. Some children decided to select a quarter of a slice of ham to enjoy on their pizza.  We had so much fun!

All ready for the oven.

We all enjoyed our quarter of a pizza and Mrs Richardson thoroughly enjoyed her half!

Guess What?

In year one we have been thinking about our 5 senses.  Today we played a really fun game where one of us were blindfolded and using our 4 remaining senses we had to guess what food was placed in front of us.
Lucy tried to guess what a cracker was without using her eyes. She was very close when she guessed it was a biscuit.

Frazer was brilliant and guessed cheese straight away! Well done Frazer.
At first Sam thought that he could feel sand and then suggested soil. When Mrs Richardson reminded him that it was a food he quickly changed his mind to sugar! Good guessing Sam!
Katy experience the most sloppy of the foods and with her detective nose she immediately identified the tomato soup! soooouper work Katy!

We are going on a plant hunt!!

This week in Science we have been learning about plants in the sunshine. We discovered new and interesting facts to help us label the parts of a plant inside the classroom.

Lizzie and Joe found a different plant to the other children. They could locate the stem, flower and the leaves.

Katy and Lewis found a daffodil hiding in the bushes. Katy is pointing to the flower part of the plant.

Kleidi and Dan found a dandelion on the grass in the Key Stage 1 yard. Great work boys.

We had a fantastic afternoon.

Outdoor Learning

Because the weather has been so lovely Year 5 have took their learning outside this week.

On Tuesday, we went outside to practice our long multiplication method. We thought of some sums we wanted to work out and then using chalk we worked it out on the yard. This was fun, active learning. It was nice to get outside to do our learning.

We even had two visitors from Year 1 showing off their fantastic times table skills. Frazer and Jack could count in 5's all the way to 100! Fantastic!

Helping Hands

Year 5 have had the responsibility of helping out with Year 1 over this year. We have been helping them to set up for ICT lessons and Mathletics. Over the Spring term we also helped out in Year 1 when the children were completing their Easter cards.

Recently Year 1 have been sharing their favourite books with the children in Year 5.  The children had a great afternoon sharing their favourite parts of the story and having Year 5 read their favourite books to them.
