This week Reception welcomed ten new members! They arrived on Thursday 4th June and just haven't stopped eating or growing all week!
There are 5 caterpillars in each pot. At the bottom of the pot is all the food and nutrients they will need.
We thought about how we need to be careful around our new little guests. The children decided rules for looking at the caterpillars should be:
- Don't shake the tubs!
- Don't tip them upside down
- Don't drop them!
- Be quiet around them so they don't get scared.
Teeny Tiny! Day 2 (Friday 5th)
Day 4 (Sunday 7th)
Day 5 (Monday 8th)
Day 7 (Wednesday 10th)
Day 8 (Thursday 11th)
Day 9 (Friday 12th)
The webbing in the pots is made by the caterpillars. They make it to keep them from being blown off leaves by the wind and to protect them.
Keep watching for updates on their progress! It can't be long before they shed their skin one last time and make their cocoons on the thin paper at the top of their pots. When this happens, they can be transferred to their pop-up butterfly net where they will be safe to appear as butterflies! We can't wait!
