On Monday it was Den Day!
Year 5 and Year 2 joined together to create a fantastic Den in the Key Stage 1 yard!
We first had a discussion about working as a team and communicating our ideas with each other before collecting the materials we needed to create our fabulous Den! Miss Henry and Miss Howe couldn't believe how great and original our ideas were! We had great fun doing this and hope we get to make an even better Den in the future!
For arts week this year, Year 5 looked at African art.
We decided not to do an African painting or sculpture, but to learn about African dance and singing. We learnt two children's songs which were famous songs from Ghana.
Then we put our dancing skills to the test and created an African tribe dance. First we watched a few videos to get some ideas. Our dance was fantastic and we had great fun practicing it and performing it to the rest of the school, who thoroughly enjoyed watching us!
We also created some African cuffs and head bands to wear for our performance, using African beading as our inspiration.
This week some children from Key Stage 2 attended a Spelling Bee competition at Bill Quay Primary School.
Unfortunately we didn't win, but we worked hard together as a team to complete the challenges we were set and managed to come second! Well done to Bill Quay who won the Spelling Bee, and to Wardly and Lingey House who came 3rd and 4th.
We had a fantastic afternoon and would like to thank Bill Quay Primary School for inviting us and being so welcoming (and for the delicious Bee cakes)!
Because the weather has been so lovely Year 5 have took their learning outside this week.
On Tuesday, we went outside to practice our long multiplication method. We thought of some sums we wanted to work out and then using chalk we worked it out on the yard. This was fun, active learning. It was nice to get outside to do our learning.
We even had two visitors from Year 1 showing off their fantastic times table skills. Frazer and Jack could count in 5's all the way to 100! Fantastic!
