KS2 Spelling Bee!

This week some children from Key Stage 2 attended a Spelling Bee competition at Bill Quay Primary School.

Unfortunately we didn't win, but we worked hard together as a team to complete the challenges we were set and managed to come second! Well done to Bill Quay who won the Spelling Bee, and to Wardly and Lingey House who came 3rd and 4th.

We had a fantastic afternoon and would like to thank Bill Quay Primary School for inviting us and being so welcoming (and for the delicious Bee cakes)!

Year 6 Kwik Cricket 4th June

Really pleased to say the year 6 came third in the local Kwik Cricket tournament at Felling CC. It was a great day of effort and sportsmanship, where all the teams progressed in skill through the day. Year 6 won their group stage with 663 which took us into the semi finals. Here we were pipped at the post by Bill Quay who went on to achieve 2nd place. We faced off with Roman Road for 3rd place defeated them by 7 point our final match!

Great performances all round. Well done year 6!

Pizza and bowling treat!

Y6 had a fantastic time recently when they went bowling at Namco's in the Metrocentre. The competition certainly proved intense at times with Mrs Parry proving herself to be quite an expert - much to Y6's surprise! Everyone was definitely ready for their pizza and pasta at Pizza Express. A very memorable day for all concerned.

Magna Carta- 800 years of freedom!

We learnt all about the significance of the Magna Carta in assembly last week. It's 800 years since it was sealed and we have created an interactive display in our school hall all about it. The timeline that has been sent out to all schools as part of the commemoration of this historic national event is extremely informative and teachers will use assemblies to talk about other events that have led to the freedoms we enjoy today.

Pupils will need to ensure that they arrive promptly for school each day. Please could you ensure that your child has breakfast each morning and plenty of sleep the night before in readiness for the assessments. A labelled water bottle for pupils to drink between tests would be beneficial.

We know this will be difficult for some of our children but please ensure that your child does not worry unnecessarily, encourage them to stay calm in a pleasant atmosphere at home. We will ensure the same atmosphere in school.

Eggstravaganza!

Just take a look at how creative y6 have been with their entries for White Mere's Easter egg competition. It's going to be really hard deciding on a winner.

Bake sale news reaches the Chronicle!

Y6 were so excited to discover that news of their bake sale had reached the Evening Chronicle and was in the edition 26/3/15. It's great to share our fundraising activities with the wider community and the whole of the North East!

Y6 have created some lovely Easter bonnets for our school competition - spring truly seems to have arrived along with much sunnier weather! (We hope it lasts)

Year 5/6 Football

I would like to say a HUGE well done to the boys from Year 5 and 6 for their fantastic effort during the Football League Final last night and throughout the season. They have had a great season and done a great job, coming second in the league.

The boys would like to thank their coach Gary for all the training he has done with them, Mr Noble for his continuous support throughout their season and Miss Ramshaw for refereeing the matches at home and also helping them in training too. They would also like to thank all of the parents / carers / friends / teachers / governors who have attended their matches to support them and cheer them on throughout the season.

Solar eclipse awareness.

Y6 were really keen to explain the dangers of looking directly at the sun particularly with regard to the  forthcoming solar eclipse . They explained what a solar eclipse was to each class along with reasons why pupils should not look at it despite it being such an unusual event.

Art inspired by William Morris

Y6 have recently studied artwork by the Victorian artist William Morris. Nature was a huge inspiration for Morris as is apparent within his many patterns. We extended one of his original designs to begin with in order to develop our sketching skills. We then designed a tile which we could use for a pattern of our own. Just look at our fantastic artwork!

Red Nose Day fundraising!

Y6 were hardly recognisable when they came in to school 'dressed up daft!' They were certainly very creative when it came to costume ideas.

World book day fun!

Y6 enjoyed dressing as their favourite book characters today. It was great to see how imaginative everybody was in assembly - although it proved hard to recognise some pupils! Teachers had very difficult decisions to make when judging the best costume within each class as everybody had made such a good effort!

Y6 Bake sale for the Children of Syria.

Y6 were keen to raise money for the Children of Syria and decided that a bake sale would be a great idea within school. What a range of fantastic cakes - they were certainly in demand! An amazing £75 was collected - congratulations go to all concerned.

Amazing Medusa masks.

Miss Sykes was so impressed by y3's creativity that she invited some pupils to show their amazing Medusa masks to the rest of the school in assembly. The rest of the school were certainly impressed. It's just as well that nobody was turned into stone!
