Problem Solving- The Four Operations!

This week we have continued our work on problem solving by looking closely at different methods to find the answer to multiplication x, subtraction - and addition + number sentences!

On Friday, we worked in small groups and looked at these type of number sentences, we then used our own problem solving skills to decide how we would find the answer- first we decided which method we would use, then we decided which equipment we would need to help us solve it! Once we had done that, it was easy to find the answer!

For missing value addition number sentences we used the inverse- subtraction!
E.g. 23 + ? = 56
became
56 - 23 =

For missing value subtraction number sentences we still used subtraction but we rearranged the numbers!
E.g. 53 - ? = 39
became
53- 39 =

For multiplication we used arrays and repeated addition!

For division we used bead strings and repeated subtraction!
