Arts Week 2014

We have recently had our own Artsweek which every class in the school took part in! Our arts week was based on the ‘Take One Picture’ project which is the National Gallery, London's countrywide scheme for primary schools. Each year the Gallery focuses on one painting from their collection to inspire cross-curricular work in primary classrooms. This year the painting was ‘Saint Michael Triumphs over the Devil’ by Bartolomé Bermejo.

Each class found out lots about the piece of work as well as the artist who created it. Classes then went on their own route to explore the painting more and create something for themselves! The final work created by each class was fantastic!! Photos to follow soon!

Arts Week!

In year 3 we loved our Arts Week based on the painting ‘Saint Michael Triumphs over the Devil’ by Bartolomé Bermejo. After studying the painting, we were very interested in the detail that was created with paint, and the different textures that can be created.

We decided to make our own class cloak because we loved the detail in the cloak that St Michael wears in the painting. We experimented with paint on material to create effective patterns. We then drew our own design onto our individual squares.

World Cup Topic!

In Year 3 our World Cup country is Greece. As a homework project we made information posters all about the country and practised our presentation skills before we presented to the class. We enjoyed finding out about a range of things, from Greek food to different Greek dancing!

Cinema Visitors

We were very lucky to have two ladies from Boldon cinema to come into school and do a cinema workshop with us. We learned about what is involved in planning and designing a new cinema and we had the chance to design our own! We thought about the layout of our cinemas as well as what we wanted to have in the cinema, the best bit was designing the food choices as we were able to get very creative!

Cinema Trip!

To finish our ‘At the Movies’ topic’, Year 3 and 4 visited Boldon cinema for our own private viewing of the new ‘Tarzan’ movie. We also had a special private tour of the projection rooms which was so interesting! We learned about the difference between 2D and 3D films and the equipment that is needed for them and got to see for ourselves how the films are played.

Our visit to the Arbeia Roman Fort

Year 3 and 4 really enjoyed our trip to the Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields

We had the chance to become archaeologists for the day to find out more about life when the Romans were around! We got digging and found some real Roman artefacts and we were able to find out what they were and how they were used.

We braved the cold and windy weather to explore the reconstructions of the Roman Fort. It was exciting standing on top of the west gate as we were able to see everything within the fort! After comparing the reconstructed bedrooms of the soldiers and the Centurion, we are sure we would prefer to live in the Centurions villa!

Visiting St. James Park!

Newcastle United Football Club

On Wednesday 18th June, Year 5 and Year 6 had a fun-packed morning visiting St. James Park football stadium, the home of the 'great' Newcastle United!

We spent the morning on a full access tour of the stadium, learning lots about the ground and history of the football club. Did you know St. James Park is the third largest football stadium in the Premiership? It holds 52, 420 fans!

Our tour guides took us into the player’s area, where we visited the away changing room and the home changing room – what a difference! The away changing room was very dull and very, very basic. We were told this was a tactic to unsettle the opposition. The home changing room was very impressive!

The basic away team changing room!

The modern and comfortable home changing room!

We walked through the tunnel on to the pitch and got to try out the luxurious, heated seats that the players and manager sit on throughout the match! (Unless banned from the pitch side, like Alan Pardew!) They were very comfy!
